WANTED – GOOD NEWS BIBLESThe Big Breakfast (TBB) is the name of our Bible Class group, which meets every Sunday morning at 11am. The Group numbers around 40 teenagers, and around half of them don’t have Bibles. The Bible in use is the same as the one in Church – the Good News Bible. If anyone could provide a copy for TBB, that would be very helpful. Please speak to Liz Henderson about this. ONE WORLD COMMITTEE This Committee has a variety of issues in its remit. These include making arrangements for Christian Aid Week, and supporting the Erskine Bridge Cross; collecting used stamps for the Church of Scotland’s World Mission, and maintaining links with our Missionary Partner; supporting the Saidiana Women’s Project in Kenya; making arrangements for supporting the Leprosy Mission; and encouraging the use of the Traidcraft Stall, and developing our status as a Fairtrade Congregation. Who knows – maybe also looking into what might be involved in making KP an Eco-Congregation too. New members for this Committee would be very welcome, from anyone in the Church who is interested in these matters. Please contact the Convener, Alex Gillespie, on 613 1577. CHRISTIAN AID WEEKWe took part this year in the annual House-to-House Collection. This was a very worthwhile effort on behalf of the poorest of the poor. Between the house-to-house collection and the Erskine Bridge walk, we raised over £3,000. For further information see the Christian Aid Website - www.christian-aid.org.uk
FUN DAY On Saturday 30th September, King’s Park Parish Church held a very successful Super Saturday Fun Day. There was a morning session for age 3 up to Primary 6 and an evening session for Primary 7 up to Secondary 4th Year. They took part in games, singing, drama and had a wonderful time. All the children were given an invitation to come and Worship at Sunday School and the Big Breakfast. And it was with great joy that some, who had not been to King’s Park before, came back the next day to join the other children and young people at the various Sunday Schools and Big Breakfast. ONGOING ACTIVITIESAlong with our support of Christian Aid, we are actively involved in a whole range of issues, concerned with the developing world, because of our global responsibility as citizens of the world, and members of the universal Church:-· We are a FAIRTRADE CONGREGATION. The Fairtrade logo (see the Links page) has become extremely well known, and fairly traded goods are readily available in shops and supermarkets. For a good many years, we have had a TRAIDCRAFT STALL every month, which has also been open weekly at Advent/Christmas, and daily through Holy Week and Easter. · We also have links with a local project in Kenya, where a group of women are seeking to support themselves and their families, and also to be involved with education and support in the field of HIV/AIDS. Known as the SAIDIANA PROJECT (Saidiana means Together), it has been doing good work at a very local level. · Every January, we hold a service on World Leprosy Day, in support of THE LEPROSY MISSION. Check their website for very detailed information about this still dreaded disease. Thanks to new drugs, the numbers of people suffering from leprosy has fallen dramatically in the last 10 years, but there are still all kinds of stigmas attached to it, making people very unwilling to admit they have the disease. Members of the Congregation support this work by regular gifts. · For the past few years, we have been helping to provide a very simply clinic in the city of Antsiranana, in Madagascar. This is to continue to the work of the late Bishop Keith Benzies, with whom we have had a special connection.
